The Baseball team had their first game Friday, Jan. 12, against the University of San Diego. The Royals defeated King Triton 8-7.
Head coach, Erich Pfohl stated they “have been having some adequate practices as of late.” He goes on to discuss that in order to perform on a higher level the team still has more work ahead of them. He believes fall has been good thus far and winter is looking similar.
Dealing with a new season Pfohl expects to improve everything, he plans to focus on having better consistency on batting, pitching, and defense.
Pfohl also said, “we added a JV program which for us is going to serve as a huge portion of the developmental aspect of our team and our program is going to give guys an opportunity to really grow and develop early in their career that maybe aren’t ready to contribute right away . . .”
Pfohl received the ABCA Regional Coach of the Year Award. He felt that award was humbling and should be shared.
Pfohl finished by saying that the team is looking forward to improving as the year progresses.
Utility player, John Santospago, joined the program this spring and praised the coaches on staff.
“When comparing the practices to the two division one colleges and the junior college he had previously attended stating “practice is the same if not harder.”
Santospago believes the practices are conducted at a good pace and the players are always working hard.
The first home game will occur Friday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. against Marymount.
