The Lady Royals have kept themselves busy over the break. They missed their shot against San Diego State on Sunday, Dec. 10, they dribbled back five days later on Friday, Dec. 15, against with a victory over Evangel University. Emma Forel, Rihana Dougan, and Julia Pihl all with the overall points leading to a final score of 90-80 for another win.
After the holiday the team tested their skillset at the San Diego Christian Classic Friday, Dec. 29,Saturday, Dec. 30. They dropped the ball in the first round against Northwestern University. During the second round the women bounced back with a victory over Ottawa University. Forel was once again the leading scorer with thirty-two points to finish the game at 76-74 victory for the Royals to close out the year at 12-3.
The New Year brought in more competition during the first round of GSAC when the Lady Royals took their shot against number one ranked Vanguard University. Senior Nikki Andaya was able to lead the team with twenty points, but the performance still was not enough as they came up short in a 69-75 loss to Vanguard. Saturday, Jan. 6, the ladies were able to rake up a win against San Diego Christian College in the second round of the GSAC tournament with a finishing score of 91-64. The ladies looked to get a fast break in their next two games but HIU’s hope was blocked when they lost two subsequent games.
Currently their record is at 13-5, and their next game will be away on Thursday, Jan. 18, at Chapman University in Orange at 7 p.m.
