The Royals baseball has been an exciting season so far.
They were defeated in a close game by The Master’s University Friday, April 6, 6-7.
The next day, the Royals broke a tied 3-3 game when utility player, John Santospago, hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. He brought in two more RBIs in the same inning, totaling six RBIs. The rest of the batting order continued this hot hitting, ending with 10 runs in the seventh inning. The team ended with 13 runs, 13 hits, and zero errors. The Royals demolished Vanguard in a final score of 13-5.
“It felt great to clear the bases Saturday, especially the way the game was playing out,” Santospago said, “It was also cool to get that hit for the seniors on senior day.”
Santospago was also named GSAC Athlete of the Week.
The team continued their solid pitching and consistent run producing offense in their second game, when they swept Master’s, 4-0.
Their wins were short lived however, after the Pioneers seized the Royals, Tuesday, April 11, with a score of 10-11.
The team came back in their games against San Diego Christian College receiving two wins and one loss. The Royals crushed San Diego Christian College, Friday, April 13, 7-5. However the next day, Saturday, April 14, the team suffered a blow after San Diego Christian College won, 12-14. The Royals then came back in a 14-9 game in the second game of the double-header.
The baseball team is 23-23 overall, and their final games will be held in Costa Mesa against Vanguard University. The first game is tomorrow at 2 p.m. and the next day, Saturday, April 21, there will be a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
